Ankara is home to more than 70 museums. Among them is “Ulucanlar Cezaevi Müzesi” in Altındağ District which is the most visited private museum. Built in 1925 and having been used as a prison for 81 years, the building has been turned into a museum in 2011. Visitors walk through Turkey’s political history as the prison hosted so many well known names over the years it remained open. Friendly staff and additional facilites such as art shops, conference halls put the museum higher place in the to-do lists of those visiting Ankara.
